Whenever my 3yo girl sleeps early, she just keeps crying. Anyone faces this?

Is she sleeping early because she is overtired for the day? When my kids are overtired, they tend to have nightmares or cries in their sleep. It's all done in their sleep so they don't wake up. Usually I just reassure them I'm around and pat them back to sleep.
