what are the alternative way to say "NO" to your kids?

I haven't experienced this yet as my lo is quite young but i have read some articles that show alternatives instead of saying straight out no. I found the nicest way (in my opinion) was to let the child think for themselves what their action will lead to. Ex: if a child is hitting a person/sibling. Instead of "no hitting!" You can talk to your little one and say "what will happen if you hit someone? Is it a good thing or bad thing?" Making the child realize this not only reinforces the no part (without really saying it) but it also lets them be decisive and empowered that they can think for themselves.
