My neighbour delivered at a private hospital in an A1-equivalent room and her total bill including the scheduled C-section and nursery charges came up to around $32,000, so private versus public makes a huge difference. The ward stay itself isn't the biggest cost driver, it's really the gynae fees, type of delivery, and any unexpected procedures that push the final number up or down.
