Any tips on dealing with a tantrum kid.. Do you give in or insist your stand?

depending, If it's over something ridiculous, i will insist on my stand. But let's say we are outside and he starts to throw his tantrum. i will try to insist my stand,but if it gets worse, i will give in to make him stop first before pulling him aside away from public eye to give him a talk.
