Are there any surefire methods to thoroughly clean preloved items? This includes clothes, shoes, toys and books

I soak clothes in boiling water, then wash them after with a baby friendly detergent like Smart Steps, and rinse with hot water again. For toys, & books, I use Cradle's toy and surface cleaner.
