As compared to bottle-fed baby, breastfed babies may not need to be burped as frequently. However, the latter should still be burped to help expel any extra air swallowed during feedings. Bottle-fed babies have a tendency to swallow more air as they have less control over the flow of milk (as compared to breastfed babies who are able to adjust their suckling patterns). For breastfed babies, it is common for babies of mothers with oversupply of milk to swallow more air during the feeding. Hence, burping after feeding usually helps.
