Doula Experience?

Hi mums! What are your thoughts or experience on having a Doula. Thinking of getting one even tho I want a medicated birth (pain tolerance low aff) and understandably things wont go as planned (c-section). Would still like to understand better from experience on having one or if u regretted not having one. #firsttimemom #DoulaSingapore

I totally get the concern about low pain tolerance, honestly, a doula can be really helpful even with an epidural or c-section, because they're there to support you, not push any particular birth plan. My friend went with a doula for her medicated birth and said having that extra person to advocate for her during labour, help with positioning, and just be calm in the room made a huge difference, especially when things shifted to an emergency section. The thing is, doulas work with all kinds of births, some mums I know swear by them for the emotional and practical support, while a couple found they weren't necessary once the medical team was in. If you can afford it and want someone in your corner who isn't your partner or healthcare provider, it's worth exploring, just make sure you find one who's genuinely comfortable with medicated births and c-sections, because not all of them are equally experienced with that. Worst case, you've invested in extra support; best case, you've got someone who really helps you feel heard.

I didn’t use a doula myself, but honestly I can see why some mums find it helpful. 😊 Even if you’re planning for a medicated birth or are open to a C-section, a doula isn’t only for natural births. From what I’ve heard from friends, they help a lot with emotional support, explaining what’s happening, and keeping both mum and partner calm during labour. Personally, if budget allows, I think the extra support can be quite valuable because childbirth and the postpartum period can be overwhelming. We’re already exhausted physically and emotionally, and having someone experienced to guide and reassure you sounds like a big help. That said, many mums also do perfectly fine without a doula, especially if they have a supportive partner and care team. 😊 Ultimately depends on what kind of support you’re hoping for during the birth journey. ❤️
