You can but most tattoo artists will not knowingly tattoo a pregnant or breastfeeding mother. It is highly recommended that mothers wait at least until the child's first birthday to give their bodies a chance to recover completely from childbirth before getting a tattoo. The ink molecules might be too big to pass into breastmilk but when you get a tattoo there is a possibility for infections and these might be a cause of concern for breastfeeding mothers.

Though it’s probably impossible for the ink to make its way into your breast milk, the risk of infection is real and looms larger when you’re breastfeeding. Some infections can be passed to your baby, and infections require treatment that might not be breastfeeding compatible.
