Is it necessary and helpful for potty training to buy this thing? I need recommendation!

I'm using this in my house! I think it's fairly useful but we had some problems initially. My son kept on wanting to help to pour away the urine after he pees in it. And many times created a whole mess when we tried to 'fight' with him over it. It took some time before he finally stopped doing that and allowing us to dispose of the urine. The suction pads were also not very strong. I had to buy new ones myself.
