Out of MC & leave, down with flu for more than a week!!
I ran out of mc and leave for the year. Had my miscarriage in mid july and now im almost 10wks pregnant again. Problem is this time pregnancy tires me out so bad, i feel like im out of breath... and i've been having flu for more than a wk and feeling feverish on n off. Help!! How can i get HL and what can i do to stop my runny nose... im sneezing the whole day my lower abdomen hurts! 😫

Aiyo jie, so sorry to hear you're going through so much at one time — jia you okay! 💕 My friend who also had a miscarriage earlier this year told me that unfortunately Singapore currently doesn't have official miscarriage leave entitlement under MOM, so many of us end up using MC or urgent leave lah, which is exactly the problem you're facing now. But someone in my mum WhatsApp group mentioned that if you go back to your gynae or even a GP and explain everything — the flu, the fever, AND that you're 10 weeks pregnant and exhausted — the doctor can actually give you Hospital Leave (HL) instead of regular MC, and HL usually comes from a separate quota so it won't eat into your normal leave! She also said you can be honest with your doctor about your situation and ask them specifically for HL because you're pregnant and unwell, most doctors will be very understanding one. Another mum I know also mentioned that sneezing so hard when you have a bump can really strain your lower abdomen, so please don't anyhow take flu medication — some are not safe in pregnancy, so really need to let your gynae advise what's safe to take lor. Definitely worth checking with your own gynae or specialist soon, especially with the breathlessness and on-off fever — better to get everything assessed properly!
Read moreOh dear, please don't wait on this one — you really need to see a doctor today, okay? Flu for more than a week, on-and-off fever, feeling breathless, AND you're 10 weeks pregnant after a recent miscarriage — this is not something to try to manage on your own at home. Please go see your gynae or a GP urgently, or if the breathlessness gets worse, please go A&E straight away. Don't wait. Your baby's safety comes first, and only a doctor can properly check you and your little one, and also issue you a Hospital Leave (HL) certificate if needed — that's the right way to get the time off when MC runs out. I know it's so stressful worrying about work on top of feeling so awful, but your health and your pregnancy really cannot be compromised right now. Any understanding employer should accept a HL from your doctor. Sending you a big hug, jiayou mama. You've been through so much already. Please take care of yourself and go get checked today!
