I got a little crafty today for this activity. When I use the “Happy” plate up, I make a short story about a time when my son may have felt the emotion and move the plate away to show my happy face. “This is Josh, he is happy because he get to play outside. Are you happy when you play outside too? Give him a high five.” I cannot forget how my son’s expression changed and check himself out in the mirror, smiling. This is also an opportunity for him to show empathy e.g. to hug someone if he is sad and encourage someone when scared. #modellingempathy #recognizingemotions #cognitiveactivity #mindfulnessforkids
