Oh my goodness, I really feel you on this, being hit with uncertain news at what should have been such an exciting gender scan must be so overwhelming, especially as a first-time mum. Please know you are not alone in this, because I have heard of other mums going through almost exactly the same situation, CMV IgG positive with a small head measurement around the 2nd percentile at the 20-week scan, and the outcomes varied quite a bit, which gives some reason for hope. The key thing I've gathered is that IgG positive alone actually means past exposure rather than a current active infection, so the doctors will really want to check whether your IgM is negative (which sounds like it may be), and whether baby's head is still growing steadily on its own curve, because some mums shared that their baby's head, while small, kept growing consistently and that was a reassuring sign. It is also worth knowing that a few mums were referred for a fetal MRI around this stage to get a clearer picture of brain development, and that gave them much more specific answers than the scan alone could. Do keep asking your OB for a referral to a fetal medicine specialist if you haven't already, they are really the ones best placed to piece together your full picture and guide you properly from here.
