The mucus plug usually refers to that near delivery, around 36 to 38 weeks. It is like a plug in the cervix that acts as a barrier to infection. As the pregnancy nears delivery, the cervix will dilate and the plug then falls out. The expelled mucous plug is called “show"and it can be a sign that you might be delivering soon. During pregnancy, it is normal to have increased vaginal discharge. Normal vaginal discharge is odourless to faint musty with no itch, is clear or faintly cloudy with the occasional dark pearl colour and is rarely grey-yellow.
