These are the common problems during breastfeeding: 1. Low milk supply: less than 30ml-50ml for each breast during pumping. You can try to direct latch more frequently or increase pumping frequency so to let your body knows that there is a demand. 2. Engorgement and blocked duct: if the breast is too engorged and didn't clear it, it will become blocked ducts and the breasts will be as hard as rock and very painful. What you can do is apply hot compression on the breast and try to pump it out. You may want to engage a breast massage specialist to help you to clear the blockage. 3. Masitis - if you are having fever and breast area is swollen and red, you are likely getting masitis, breast infection. You need to visit lactation consultant and get antibiotics. 4. Baby refuses to latch on - if you offer milk bottle or pacifier before breastfeeding has established, baby will get nipple confusion. Baby will reject to latch on the nipple.

Some signs that you can watch out for include: - baby is having fewer than six wet diapers a day by six-day old - baby is still having meconium (greenish black stools) by five-day old - your milk supply is full but your don’t hear your baby gulping or swallowing frequently during the feeding session - your nipples are painful throughout the feed - your baby seemed to be constantly feeding - you don’t feel that your milk supply has become full by the fifth day after giving birth - your baby has not regained his/her birth weight 10 days after birth These signs could signify that you may be having one of the common breastfeeding problems mentioned by Diana.
