From what I've heard, newborn anaemia can happen for a few different reasons, sometimes it's because the baby's body is still adjusting after birth, and sometimes it's related to nutrition, so your paediatrician would really need to identify the root cause before making any changes to his feeding. If you are currently on formula, it may be worth asking the doctor whether an iron-fortified formula is suitable for him, as some mums here have found that helpful when recommended by their specialist.
