KKH vs Private hospital OB GYNEs

First time pregnant here. Does anyone here get to experience how to be treated in both KKH and Private OBs? What's the major difference apart from their rate especially during delivery? Any facilities or long queues or advice differences? Thank you

Congrats on your first pregnancy! From what I've generally heard, the main trade-off with KKH subsidised is cost savings, visits with scans can come in around $100+ and you can use Medisave for jabs, but you won't see the same gynae each time, and if you deliver there, you're in a shared ward without your husband staying overnight, which some mums are fine with and others really aren't. One thing I found useful when I was weighing options myself is that KKH does let you convert from subsidised to private partway through, so some people go subsidised until the later scans are done and then switch, which helps manage the costs without committing fully from the start. Private hospitals give you a fixed OB you build a relationship with and a more comfortable ward setup, but the bills are significantly higher, and even popular ones like Thomson have their own issues depending on timing. Honestly, if comfort and continuity of care matter a lot to you, private makes sense, but if you're comfortable seeing different doctors and want to stretch your budget, KKH subsidised with a later switch is a genuinely reasonable middle path worth considering.
