Unless you really cannot afford the requested amount by female side then ask your parents to help/work out something with your fiancée. My advise is, best if you prepare (pay) yourself instead of your parents, no need to scared 往后日子 got anything to say haha. For receiving, by right is for the parents but it really depends on the parents. Most of them will give it back to their daughters after that. My own parents only took $8 for 好兆头 and returned me everything else 😊.
