At almost 8 months old, this is actually very common. Babies at this age are becoming more aware of their surroundings and often go through a phase where they strongly prefer being close to their caregiver. Wanting to be carried doesn't mean you've created a bad habit.
Try offering short periods of independent play when your baby is well-rested and fed. Sit nearby on the floor, interact for a few minutes, then gradually encourage him to explore toys on his own while you stay within sight. Start with just a few minutes and slowly increase the time.
For the high chair, keep meal times positive and age-appropriate. Offer a few favorite finger foods, toys reserved only for the high chair, and don't expect him to sit for long periods. Many babies this age can only tolerate 10–15 minutes before needing a change of activity.
Babywearing, floor play, and frequent interaction are all healthy. As his mobility and confidence grow over the next few months, he'll likely become more interested in exploring independently. Consistency and patience are key
