smelly umbilical cord newborn

my baby is 5 day old. on her third day, i noticed foul smell coming from her cord. i immediately cleaned it with cotton buds and alcohol. each cotton bud had a hint of blood. it took like 4-5 cotton buds to fully remove the blood. until this day, the smell and hint of blood are still there. Is it a sign of concern? or is this normal?
