Any tips to take out good family photograph shots?

Candids! Sometimes I think it's better not to "overthink" and just snap away. Especially now with the convenience of our camera phones with very good quality cameras. However, if you want to have good photography, I think you will have to read up on aperture, shuttle speed, exposure, framing and composition (rule of the third) etc. Good photo editing software would help too. For me, personally, I find those quite difficult to understand. Once in a while, I will try to experiment with different settings. But more often than not, my camera will be set to "auto" mode and I simply focused on capturing the moments and snap away happily. Some basic framing and understanding of depth of field do help though. Oh! And I've discovered that using the timer for selfies are awesome. That extra couple of seconds allow everyone to be more ready (especially for the photographer). :)
