The KelasMateMatika @ CC programme (KMM) is an initiative of three key Malay/Muslim organisations: Mendaki, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) and the People's Association Malay Activity Executive Committees Council (Mesra). It is a free educational programme, and an enhanced version of self-help group Mendaki's existing Tiga M programme. The first pilot phase is running at three divisions in Marsiling, Nee Soon East and Pasir Ris East. The KMM programme is targeted at families with children aged between four and six years, and whose household per capita income is $450 or less a month. Over six sessions, parents learn basic numeracy concepts as well as techniques to build the child's self-esteem and confidence as they learn. There are also interactive activities for the children to pick up math concepts better. The sessions aim to encourage family bonding as well, through fun activities like playing games, making a halal bento set or fairy lamp, and doing zumba exercises.

2018-12-05I would like to recommend Auntie Kelly for her confinement nanny service. She is very experienced, responsible, hygienic, and caring nanny. Experience wise she has been doing this for many years. She has been doing it for an agency as well. But due to the high commission the agency takes sometimes up to 1.5K, she likes to try going direct to mummies nowadays. She even has people asking her to go overseas to help babysit constantly. I was lucky she is free. She cooks well and the food is really delicious. She has a nice variety of food she cooks. The food won't be too strong flavoured as Mums should not take too much salt at the start. Yes she told me this. So at different weeks she will modify the taste accordingly. Never get sick of her cooking. Every meal is usually 1-2 vege, 1 meat/fish, 1 soup (usually herbal or ABC, lotus root with herbs added in). My mum is also now asking her to cook some dishes she sees in a recipe book ad she cooks them. Taste quite nice. She is experienced and cooks quite fast within an hour, of course she prepares the ingredients beforehand. I find her responsible, I leave my baby with her at night. She will trigger us if the baby is hungry or coax the baby if it is just small cries. She works well with my mum too. Sometimes my mum buys the grocery, or she can also go to the wet market herself to buy food. She does have a way with babies and knows baby behaviour well I realised, whether it is poop, hungry, or just want attention. Her style is slightly old school Chinese buy she is respectful. So she will just inform us how they usually do things but she will just follow whatever we wants her to do, be it food taste, baby feeding or other practices. To be frank on the times I voice my feedback her explanations turns out to be reasonable or after she did what I want,I realised it is my mistake, she is right. Hahaha. So she is quite teachable. I was so fortunate to have her. She is highly recommended. She is from Johor and speaks mostly Chinese and Melayu. 2018-12-06One of the things that many Asian parents ban in their households is sugary drinks or soft drinks. None of that fizzy cola drinks or cordial drinks that our kids love to binge drink when we're not looking. But is banning it nationwide too drastic a move? The Ministry of Health (MOH) is contemplating in its efforts to cut the high sugar intake of Singaporeans, as it is a major factor for obesity and diabetes. First, they want to hear from the public. Do we agree or disagree with this ban? The MOH and the Health Promotion Board have presented four measures to cut sugar intake from drinks, which include 3-in-1 mixes, cordials, yogurt drinks, fruit juices and soda drinks. These four measures are: - Total ban on pre-packed high-sugar drinks - Single or tiered tax on high-sugar drinks - Mandatory front-of-pack labelling on sugar/nutrition content - Ban on advertisements on all platforms for high-sugar drinks, including social media and on buses DID YOU KNOW? One in four sugar-sweetened beverages contains 5.5 teaspoons of sugar or more. Singapore already does not allow the sale of high-sugar drinks in schools and on government premises. Many companies also refrain from advertising high-sugar drinks during the hours when children are more likely to be watching television. However, our passport has dropped from the first to second place in the 2018 Passport Index, replaced by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) passport. The Passport Index, created by Global advisory firm Arton Capital, lists the passports of nations in descending order based on how much cross-border access authority they hold. The firm ranks countries by giving them a “visa-free score”, after looking at how many countries a passport gives access to even if they lack a visa (or a visa upon arrival). This year, the UAE scored 167. People with the UAE passport can fly to 113 countries without a visa, and 54 after visa upon arrival. Our island nation scored 166, allowing holders to go to 127 countries without a visa, and 39 for visa upon arrival. Germany tied with Singapore at 166, but was pushed to third place since German passports only let passport holders go to 126 countries without a visa. Another Index, the Henley Passport Index, also put Singapore in second place after it released its analysis on October this year. Based on the Henley Passport Index, the Singapore passport was beaten by the Japanese passport, previously in 13th place based on this Index.

2018-12-06Recently, 42 people became sick with gastroenteritis after going to a wedding banquet at Mandarin Orchard Singapore on Sunday (Dec 2). Many of the affected people, including Counsellor Matthew Tjow’s family, had classic gastroenteritis symptoms, including stomach discomfort, vomiting, fever, dehydration and overall sleeplessness. Four guests have since been hospitalised. The Ministry of Health (MOH), National Environment Agency (NEA) and Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) announced in a joint statement on Wednesday (Dec 5) that investigations regarding the outbreak of gastroenteritis around the hotel’s premises begun on Tuesday (Dec 4). They have tracked the source to be the food prepared at Mandarin Orchard on Sunday, which the patients ate during the banquet. During the investigation, food handlers were told to screen their stools. Food and environmental samples were also obtained for testing. A representative of the hotel further added on Wednesday that hotel staff have contacted ill guests to provide support, assistance and see if they were coping. The hotel has fully cooperated with authorities in their analysis. They say that official findings should be announced soon. According to the representative, hotel staff who were involved in food preparation during the affected banquets were not allowed to return to work until they have finished the required medical tests and given the clear from authorities. This news comes after 131 people got sick with gastroenteritis, including K2 children and teachers, who were attending a learning camp organised by Busy Bees Asia.
2018-12-06An American teacher will not come back to work this Christmas after telling her class of six- and seven-year-olds that Santa Claus doesn’t exist. According to authorities, the substitute teacher whose identity remains unknown, even disproved other holiday characters, including the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy, last week. Unsurprisingly her teachings upset her Primary one students. Local media reported that Michael Raj, the school’s principal, had sent a letter to parents on Thursday (Dec 6), where he was apologetic for the teacher's misconduct. Furthermore, he says he has discussed with the teacher about her bad reasoning. Being a dad to four children, Mr Raj fully understands the how sensitive the teacher’s actions were. Rene Rovtar, the local town’s superintendent of schools, also recently confirmed to local media reporters that the teacher in question will stop working in the area. The superintendent says she was troubled and disheartened over the incident, saying that the "childhood wonder associated with all holidays and traditions" is special to her. A week ago, one parent told a local news company that her daughter Addirana, aged six, was extremely disappointed upon listening to the teacher. She says that she was “heartbroken” since her daughter “is the hugest believer in the whole Christmas spirit of Santa and giving." It is unknown whether the teacher was sacked or went away from the area voluntarily.

2018-12-08My husband mum has 2 relatives with diagnosed autism, one of them is my hub cousin, another is a more distant relative. Is it a cause for concern?
